Big week for our boys soccer team!

Big week for our boys soccer team!

The Jayhawks started the week against American Preparatory Academy (APA) on Monday, April 18th. A goal by Bob Schoof put the Jayhawks up early in the game. APA followed with three quick goals by the end of the first-half. The second-half the Jayhawks made a strong charge to overtake APA that started with a goal by Cayden Jones. However, despite the dominating play by the entire Jayhawks team, they came up short losing 2-3.
The boys’ soccer team had little time to think about their loss against APA, as Providence visited SJHS Lew Joseph Memorial Soccer Field on Wednesday April 20th. Jayhawks lost to Providence earlier in the season, so there was extra motivation to come away with a win. With a beautiful Spring Day and The SJHS Athletic Booster Club putting on their annual tailgate cookout the boys’ soccer team came away with a 3-2 victory. The strong showing by the Jayhawks defensive line Luis Gil, Kevin Rivera, Collin Daley, and Kenneth Corrales allowed Trey Knudsen to slot 2 balls in the back of the net along with Adones Hooslyn adding a goal of his own. Cayden Jones assisted 2 of the goals.
The last game of the week was on Friday and involved a rematch against the team that handed the Jayhawks their only loss of the week. The Jayhawks entered the game with needing to win two of the remaining three season games to clinch the division title, and wanting to make up for the misstep earlier in the week defeating APA was the opportunity to redeem themselves and help them get one more step to the divisional title. Despite very windy conditions that both teams had to deal with the Jayhawks, behind a goal from Rene Guadarrama, who received the assist from Trey Knudsen, got off to an early lead in the first-half. Senior Trey Knudsen quickly scored off an assist by Senior Cayden Jones at the beginning of the second-half. APA made a charge but great play by midfielders Senior Adonis Hooslyn and Freshman Daniel Hooslyn and timely saves by Freshman Gavin Andersen held APA to one goal giving the Jayhawks the win 1-2.
The week was full of excitement and great competitive effort by all the boys. The upcoming week begins with the Jayhawks leading the 2A division and will include the last two games of the season against Mt. Vernon and Telos finished by a friendly game against Ben Lomond High School. All games will be at Lew Joseph Memorial Soccer Field.
